How to Choose the Right Skis or Snowboard for Your Next Adventure

Planning your next winter escape?

Whether you’re carving fresh pistes in La Tania or chasing powder turns off-piste, choosing the right skis or snowboard can make all the difference. The right setup helps you progress faster, stay comfortable, and make the most of every run.

Here’s how to find your perfect match — with a few insider tips from the team at Ski Higher.

Think About Your Experience Level

Your ability level plays an important part in the equipment that’s right for you.

  • Beginners: Look for skis or boards that are softer and more forgiving, making them easier to turn and control at lower speeds.
  • Intermediates: Opt for all-mountain options that excel in mixed conditions — ideal if you enjoy exploring every type of run.
  • Advanced & experts: You’ll benefit from stiffer, more responsive skis or boards that offer extra stability at high speed and precision on challenging terrain.

Our expert technicians will take your ability into account when choosing the right equipment for you. If you’re unsure where you fit, our in-resort team can assess your level and match you to gear that helps you feel confident and in control on every descent.

Match Your Gear To The Terrain

Different terrain calls for different technology, and we’ve got options for every style of skier and snowboarder.

  • Piste skis / boards: Our most popular option. Ideal for groomed runs — narrow, responsive, and built for carving.
  • All-mountain: The all-rounder. Perfect if you enjoy a bit of everything and want versatility in changing conditions.
  • Freeride / powder: Wider and longer for effortless floatation off-piste.
  • Freestyle: Twin-tip designs with extra flex for jumps, tricks, and park riding.

Not sure what suits you best? Just tell us what kind of terrain you love, and we’ll recommend the right setup based on your plans for the week and the current snow conditions.

Get The Right Fit

Length and stiffness matter — but so do your height, weight, and ability.

As a general guide:

  • Skis should sit between your chin and the top of your head.
  • Snowboards are typically shorter for beginners and longer for advanced riders.

When you book online, our system will ask for your details in advance so we can handpick the best gear for you. Everything will be tuned, waxed, and ready for your arrival. Once you’re in resort, one of our technicians will pop over to check your setup and make any final adjustments before you hit the slopes.
